Lufkin's Dickie Dixon to Speak at TAGHS May Meeting
Hershel “Dickie” Dixon, current President of the Angelina County Historical
Society, will be the guest speaker at the May 20 meeting of the Timpson Area
Genealogical and Heritage Society. A graduate of Lufkin High School, Stephen F.
Austin State University, and Dallas Theological Seminary, and a sixth generation
Texan, Mr. Dixon has one line of ancestors who have lived in Angelina County
since 1837.
Mr. Dixon, a longtime genealogist, believes that old city directories are an often
overlooked resource for those researching family histories and will speak on
“Effectively Using City Directories” at next week's TAGHS meeting. “City
directories can contain more information than a researcher bargained for!”, says Mr.
Dixon.
TAGHS meets the third Wednesday of each month at 2:00 PM in the meeting room
of the Timpson Public Library on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets. The
public is invited.
