Chamber of Commerce readies for BBQ Cookoff

The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, April 18, 2015 for final preparations for the 
 
3rd annual BBQ Cookoff.
 
President Paul Smith advised that the BBQ Cookoff will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Frontier RV 
 
Park on U.S. 59 in Timpson.  Prizes for beef, pork, and chicken categories will be First Place $400; Second 
 
Place $200; and Third Place $100 along with trophies.  The cookoff is open to amateur and professional 
 
cookers.   This year, Timpson Tamco is sponsoring a Kite Flying contest on Saturday for both children and 
 
adults.  Trophies will be awarded for Smallest Kite, Largest Kite, Most Colorful Kite, Best Homemade 
 
Kite, and Highest Flying Kite.  There will also be a miniature train for children to ride, a motorcycle rally,  
 
arts and craft booths, and a pie walk on Saturday.  There will be a dance on Friday night prior to the 
 
Saturday cookoff with Curt Daniels performing.  Curt will also entertain during the day on Saturday.  If 
 
you are interested in participating in the cookoff, call Paul Smith at 936-54-3161.  Pies are also needed 
 
for the pie walk.  Contact Marilyn Corder if you can provide a pie.  Gates open to the public on Saturday 
 
at 10:30 a.m.  The entry fee is $10 each with free admission to  children under 12 accompanied by an 
 
adult.  Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the fun filled day. 
 
Marilyn Corder advised that the 2015 Frontier Days is set.  The Memorial Gospel Singing on Thursday 
 
night, July 2, is set with the Calvary Boys & Trio, the Westins, and Broken Vessels.   Friday night is set 
 
with Dale Cunningham and dancing to the oldies on the Square.  Paul Smith reported that Saturday is 
 
also set with gunfighter reenactors, balloon clown, the cake auction, a laser show, and Charlie Robison 
 
providing entertainment for the street dance.   For the second year, there will be a closing community 
 
church service under the tent on Sunday.
 
The Chamber also voted to give two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Timpson High School.
 
The next Chamber meeting will be at the Timpson Public Library on Thursday, May 21, at 5:00 p.m.  The 
 
meeting is open to the public.
