Tenaha Businessmen’s Club meets forr monthly meeting
The Tenaha Businessmen’s Club met on Thursday, October 8, 2015 for their monthly meeting. President Carolyn Scull welcomed everyone. Secretary, Linda Perry read the minutes of the last meeting.
In reports Superintendent Scott Tyner went over the Homecoming schedule for everyone. He then asked Elementary Principal, Linda Jacobs to give an update on elementary goings on. She informed the group TISD is doing something a little different than “Meet the Teacher” night. Each week they will have a Parent Night so that parents may come in and visit with their child’s teacher and go over any questions they may have. She said the first week was a success and parents learned a lot about what their children were expected to learn by the State. She is excited about this new concept of communication with parents. Child care is also provided for these meetings.
Tyner also mentioned the High School would have a similar “Parent Academy” to meet with a few teachers to learn about required testing and college preparatory events. They will have the Tiger Café open for this event.
Claudine Howard spoke on behalf of the Tenaha Beautification and Events Planning Committee. She announced the Festival Along the Tracks and the Christmas Event has been cancelled. The lack of support was the main reason and possible violations due to the committee being linked to the City of Tenaha. She did say the committee was not disbanning and hopefully after the first of the year more interest would spark and the committee would then make new plans.
Stacey Cranford reported the 6” water main line is now complete. It has been a long process but now he hopes those on the new line are seeing much better water pressure. The City crew has been sprucing up the town for Homecoming. Marshall Jimmy Wagstaff has completed training for enforcing City Ordinances that will deal with the unkept lots in town. He hopes this will help get the City looking better and cleaner. Lastly they are working on getting streets patched before cold weather sets in.
Scull asked the Club to form a few committees to accomplish the remainder of the year activities. Committee to elect new officers consists of: George Bowers, Charles Hooker, Roland Cross and James Grimsley. Citizen of the Year Committee: Claudine Howard, Reba Weesner, Don Dial and Bro. Armond Odom. Christmas Speaker Committee: Scott Tyner, John Scull and Roland Cross. Lastly, Committee for Christmas Banquet Plans: Terry Bowlin, Linda Perry, James Grimsley and Becky Barker.
Scull reminded everyone to try and attend the 100 year Celebration of Kings Nursery. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
