Timpson Slays The Bearcats

 

TIMPSON BEARS SLAY THE BECKVILLE BEARCATS AND CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH

     Friday nights game was played on the turf in R.C. Beauchamp Stadium in Beckville.  The bottom two playoff positions were up for grabs and it all depended on who won and who lost at the end of the night.  

     Timpson won the toss and chose to defer.  The Bearcats made no headway on their first possession and on 4th and 7, the punting team hit the field.  The Bears would take over at the 42 on their first attempt and quickly drove into Bearcat territory. With 6:35 remaining in the first quarter, a QB sneak by Braden Courtney landed the Bears just shy of the goal line.  On second and goal, in wish formation, a QB sneak by Courtney puts up the first touchdown of the game. Depaepe's kick was no good and the Bears led, 6-0. The Bearcats would have to punt on their second attempt. On the next Bears drive, Coutney would take the ball deep into Bearcat territory.  Then, with a 48 yard pass to Trey Davis, the Bears would score again. The PAT was good and Timpson was up by 13.

     Early in the second quarter, QB Courtney fakes and runs in 10 yards for yet another Bears touchdown.  Depaepe's kick went right of the goal and the score was 19-0 with 6:38 left in the first half. The clock eventually ran to halftime with the score remaining 19-0 in favor of the Bears.

     The Bearcats tried an onside kick to begin the third quarter, but #12 LT Washington was able to recover and give Timpson possession on their own 48.  Then, with a 52 yard rush, KT Washington put another 6 on the board for the Bears. Depaepe sent it therough the uprights and the Bears took a commanding lead.  The Timpson punt team came out for the next play and the Bears actually recovered their own kick off on the Bearcats 32 yard line. Davis then ran 32 yards to score the Bears forth touchdown of the night leaving the score 32-0.  With 9:45 left in the quarter, the Bearcats ran the kick back for a 50 yard carry which would lead to Beckvilles first touchdown in the game. The 2 point conversion was stopped and the score was 32-6. The Bearcats kicking team took the field and the Bears took possession at the 35.  With 14 seconds left on the play clock, QB Courtney with a 40 yard pass, connects with #11 Samaj Kelly for another Bears TD. PAT by Depeape was good and the Bears led 39-6.

     A Bearcat drive would begin the fourth quarter of play and it was Campos who put up the second touchdown for Beckville.  The 2 point conversion attempt failed but the Bearcats had narrowed the gap 39-13. The Bearcats would then attempt another onside kick but Lewis would recover for the Bears on the 40.  With 9:03 left in the game, a fake to Tutt would allow Cam Foster to drive for 11 yards and put up another 6 for the black and gold. The PAT was good and the Bears were ahead 46-13. The Bearcats then drove deep into Bear territory and with 2:40 on the clock, the Bearcats were able to score.  The kick was good and the score was 46-20 in favor of the Bears. The score would remain as the time clicked off to end the game.

     At the end of the night, the scores came in from the other teams and no team would go undefeated in district play.  Harleton with a huge upset against Joaquin took 1st place, Joaquin would take 2nd, Timpson with the win against Beckville cinced 3rd and Garrison, who had a bye took 4th.  #3 Timpson will take on Groveton in Rusk this Thursday night at 7:30 in the first round of the playoffs, leaving #4 Garrison to battle top-ranked San Augustine on Friday.
