Timpson Athletic Director and Head Football Coach James Conway is proud of this year's Bears football team and looks forward to this Friday's scrimmage against the visiting Groveton Indians.

Conway and his staff look to use the season's first competition to distinguish which of the team's skills are strengths and which attributes need improvement.

Timpson sports 39 players this season which is in contrast to last year's team which played 'Iron Man' football with around 20 players at times.

The Bears are utilizing a new offensive line coach, Patrick Pickens this year. Conway noted "Patrick has fit in and is contributing to our team already."

The Bears linemen have moved up and are veterans with most of it's members being Juniors this season.

Conway said, "We have a strong pre-district schedule and face All Saints, Beckville, Lovelady, Joaquin and Harleton early on. We should be well tested by the time we play our first conference game with Mount Enterprise for Homecoming on October 9th."

Conway and staff are re-arrange the Bears with new talented personnel after several veteran players graduated including Chris Piro, Shakur Johnson, James Marshal, Devonta Thompson , Keaton Bush and Alberto Cuero.
