Timpson Bears Advance With 67-28 Win Over Grapeland

 

    The Timpson Bears advanced to the fourth round of the Texas High School Playoffs with a convincing 67-28 win over The Grapeland Sandies Friday night in Rusk. The Bears where lead by Jordan Osby who carried the ball 16 times for 284 yards and 6 touchdowns. Jon Grogan added 136 yards on 8 carries and two touchdowns.

    The Bears won the toss and deferred to the second half. On the second play the Sandies fumbled the ball and the Bears took over, from their Osby scored on a 16 yard touchdown run, Osby added the 2pt conversion and the Bears led 8-0. The Sandies took the kickoff and drove down the field where they scored on a 2 yard run, the PAT was no good and the Bears led 8-6. It didn't take long for the Bears to answer as Osby went 28 yards for the touchdown and the Bears led 16-6. The Sandies would score on their next possession on a 31 yards run with :09 seconds left in the first quarter and they would trail 16-12.

    After a onside kick the Sandies would score again on a 6 yard touchdown pass and the Sandies would take their only lead of the night 20-16. The Bears would run the ensuring kickoff back but a penalty would bring the ball back to the 42 yard line. With 8:14 Osby would go 13 yards for the touchdown and the Bears would regain the lead 22-20. With 6:15 left in the second quarter Shane Peveto would pick up a Sandies fumble and go 48 yards for the touchdown and the Bears would lead 30-20. After a Sandies punt Grogan would score on a 1 yard run and the Bears upped their lead to 38-20. The Sandies would drive down to the 10 yard line but on 4th down the pass was incomplete and the Bears would go into halftime leading 38-20.

    On the first play of the second half Osby would score on a 66 yard touchdown run and the Bears would lead 46-20. After another Grapeland punt Osby would score on a 9 yard run and the Bears had a 54-20 lead with 7:08 left in the 3rd quarter. The Sandies would get on the board on a 13 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 54-28. With :05 left in the 3rd quarter Osby would score on a 60 yard run and the Bears led  60-28. Grogan would score the Bears final touchdown on a 47 yard run to bring the final score to 67-28.

    The Bears will now take on the Tenaha Tigers Thursday night at 7:00 at Carthage High School. The Tiger defeated the Bears earlier in the year 40-6.
