Caden Solomon and Blaze Melancon named Shelby County Jr Bass Anglers of the Year

The Shelby Bass Anglers Annual Meeting was held last Thursday night at the Windham Center.  Caden Solomon and Blaze Melancon, both Freshmen from Timpson, were named the Shelby County Jr Bass Anglers of the Year.  Both were awarded a plaque and also received custom made rods.  The pair competed in five Southeast Texas area fishing tournaments last year at both Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend lakes.

The 2018 SETX season was plagued by fierce winds, heavy rainfall and freezing temperatures.  These two stuck it out and at the end of the season, placed 62nd out of more than 580 High School teams, with 2,503.35 total points.  William "Bubba" Messer served as their Captain for the 2018 season and was able get them on fish at every tournament.

The SETX gives away more than $100,000 in scholarship money from funds raised by sponsorships and registration fees for continuing education.  The mission is to promote the sport of high school fishing, enable youth to become better students, anglers, and people while exposing them to all the opportunities that competitive bass fishing offers.
