The Tenaha Tigers won their seventh consecutive district championship, last Friday, with a convincing 47-6 win over the hometown Overton Mustangs.
Tenaha took a 7-0 lead, with 2:38 left in the first quarter, on a 15-yard Ladarrius Garrett scoring run.
Garrett added a 44-yard score with 7:47 left in the second period to put Tenaha ahead 13-0. He also added a 8-yarder with 4;50 left in the second stanza, giving THS a 20-0 lead. Teammate, Jay Lloyd took a short pass reception 77 yards down the sideline for a touchdown which gave the Tigers a 27-0 lead at the halftime break.
Tenaha quarterback, CJ Horn scored on a 6-yard keeper with 9:53 remaining in the third frame to extend the Tiger’s lead to 34-0.
Overton scored when Hudson Rogers found the endzone for the Mustangs only touchdown from 2 yards away, and capped a drive which took up seven minutes. Tenahas’ lead was then cut to 34-6.
Horn extended the Tiger’s lead to 41-6 with an 18-yard keeper for a score with 8:12 remaining in the game.
Garrett added his fourth touchdown on a 20-yard scoring run with five minutes left in the game. This score gave THS a 47-6 lead and proved to be the final tally of the contest.
Abel Rodriguez scored five extra point kicks for the Tigers. Tenaha outgained the Mustangs in total yardage by a 409-113 yard advantage. Tenaha had a 122-0 yard passing advantage.
Tenaha has now clinched the District 11 2-A title because they hold a tie-breaker over Overton who would be the only team who could tie THS with one game remaining.
Tenaha will next host the Mount Enterprise Wildcats, next Friday, November 6 at Tigers Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
Mount Enterprise had an open week last Friday and is winless in conference play. They are 3-5 overall and 0-3 in league action. Their last loss came to Overton in a 39-36 loss on the road.
