Tenaha slides past Timpson, keeps district winning streak alive

Last Friday the Tenaha Tigers pleased their hometown crowd by defeating their neighboring high school’s Timpson Bears by a 24-14 margin to stay undefeated in District 11 Class 2A play.
Tenaha is now on a 32-game district winning streak which dates back to their last conference loss, a 42-29 loss to the Mount Enterprise Wildcats on Oct. 31, 2008.
Tenaha took the first lead in the game with a 18-yard touchdown pass from Tigers quarterback CJ Horn to Trai Gardner in the first period of play.
Timpson answered back with a 10-yard Hayden Smith touchdown run which tied the game up at 7-7.
Tenaha took a 10-7 lead into the lockerrom for the midway break after Abel Rodriguez added a 27-yard field goal onto the Tigers’ scoring tally.
Timpson gained a 14-10 lead with 3:20 left in the third period when Chandler Burgay took a quarterback-keeper in for a 9-yard touchdown.
The Tigers scored the remaining 14 points, on a 11-yard touchdown by sophomore fullback Christian Ashton to start the final period, and a 29-yard sweep for a touchdown by sophomore Onterio Thompson, with 5:42 remaining in the game.
During the game, Thompson rushed for 105 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown. C.J. Horn was 9-of-18 passing for 157 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Timpson was led by Chandler Burgay with 111 yards rushing on 18 carries, including a touchdown.
The Tigers are now 2-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. They will travel to Overton for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff with the Mustangs on Friday, October 30.
Timpson is now 1-7 on the year ad have a 1-2 conference mark. They will host the Maud Cardinals at Bears Stadium for the Bears’ Senior Night on Friday, at 7:30 p.m.
