Garrison Bulldogs host Beckville Bearcats

The Garrison Bulldogs hosted the Beckville Bearcats for their 2019 homecoming game tonight in what amounted to a must win for the home side.  Beckville managed a first and goal midway through the opening quarter where the Dogs stood tall and took over at their own 4 on downs.  The quarter ended with no score.  In the 2nd stanza the Bearcats attempted a FG that missed wide.  Garrison then went down the field methodically only to fumble it away at the Beckville 15 yard line.  Both teams picked off passes late in the quarter.  Sabastion Porter intercepted the latter of these on a pass from the 26 into the Garrison end zone with :14 remaining in the half and for the 2nd week in a row the Dogs went to halftime 0-0.  The third opened with a Bulldog possession that covered 61 yards capped by a Jakedric Watts 22 yard nifty cutback run to break the ice.  The snap on the point after was mishandled and Garrison led 6-0.  On their opening drive the Cats struck back on a 51 yard middle keeper by QB Bryan Harris and the PAT put the Cats up 7-6.  Garrison’s Jakadric Watts wasted no time taking the ensuing kickoff 71 yards to the end zone and a 2 point try failed.  The Bearcats felt compelled to try a 4th down down and 3 inside their own 40 and when the Bulldogs took over it took just two Porter runs to find the goal line again.  This time Andy Marquez hit the PAT to make it 19-7.  The Bearcats failed another 4th down try and after the quarter ended the Dogs committed a costly 15 yard penalty that led them to a 4th and 1 they failed to convert at the Beckville 31.  The Cats then only managed to move the ball 6 yards before giving it up on downs again at their 37.  The Bulldogs used 2 first down runs by Porter and Tristan Adkison to set up Porter again taking it the final 6 yards to pay dirt.  Marquez added the try and  the Bulldogs were up 26-7.  Garrison stopped Beckville’s final threat at their 13 yard line late and dispensed of the remaining time to capture the victory 26-7.  The Bulldogs evened their district campaign at 2-2 and overall to 3-4.  Next week the Dogs travel to Tenaha.
