Shane and Shannin Campbell charged with two counts of Injury to an Elderly/Disabled Individual with Criminal Negligence
On Sunday, November 11th the Panola County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a motorist who said there was a woman lying in the front yard of a residence on FM 959. Deputies arrived and observed the woman lying on the ground on top of some trash. She was conscious but unable to speak. EMS was notified and the woman kept pointing towards the front of the house. Deputy Jeremy Nagle knocked on the door numerous times but no one answered. Deputy Philip Grimes gave the woman a pen and paper and she wrote there was someone in the house that needed help. EMS arrived and deputies entered the house and discovered another woman lying uncovered on the floor in her own waste. This victim told the deputies that there were other people in the house. Deputies knocked on a locked bedroom door and the suspects, Shane Cody Campbell, age 25 and his wife Shannin Lea Campbell, age 26, opened the door. Shane Campbell told deputies the woman in the front yard was his mother, who is deaf and mute, and the woman inside the house is his grandmother. He said he was caring for them, however, both victims told deputies they had not received any medicine nor have they eaten in days. The deputies observed trash and human waste throughout the house and on the beds and floors. The inside temperature was fifty five degrees. The victims were transported to UT Health Carthage where they were both admitted, suffering from cuts, dehydration, hypothermia and other medical issues. One victim was transferred to UT Health Tyler. Arrest warrants were obtained and both suspects were taken into custody and charged with two counts of Injury to an Elderly/Disabled Individual with Criminal Negligence. Their bonds are set at $20,000 on each count.
