Region 7 Informational Governance Workshop: Public School Boards


WHO: Region 7 Education Service Center hosted a FREE governance

workshop for all Nacogdoches county school districts and residents.
WHAT: This was a FREE workshop and all Nacogdoches county school
districts and residents are invited to attend.
Candidates who are running in the May 2017 upcoming school board elections were encouraged but not required to attend. Attendance was not mandatory to run in the May 2017 election.
With more than 30 in attendance, this workshop focused on informing and engaging the community and possible candidates who may be interested in running for school board or just want to know more how public schools are governed.
Representatives from the Region 7 Education Service Center (ESC) presented an overview of the rules, responsibilities and commitments of public school board members at the workshop. Texas Education Agency (TEA) Deputy Commissioner AJ Crabill lead an informational session discussing school board governance and priorities. Crabill discussed information he believes community and board members need to know, which ranged from the difference between academic outputs and outcomes to the state accountability system.
