Gary J.H. School’s OAP Team perform in the District 28 1A OAP Contest
For the past eight years, 7th and 8th graders at GJH who make up the OAP Team compete and give a community performance just before the end of the year.
This year the students performed Aesop’s Fables Redux by Susan Pennington. “The students this year really exceeded expectations. This play has a huge cast, and several of the students are playing multiple roles.” reports Ms. Nerissa Coligan, director. She says, “Our first time on stage will be a dress rehearsal for some of our elementary students. Our first performance will be at the contest in Cushing. Parents and community members are welcome to come to this free event.” The students travel to the contest, rehearse in the morning, and compete after a mid-day directors meeting and lunch break. They then put the show on again the following week for the students, parents, and community members in Gary before the holiday break.
Ms. Coligan and Mrs. Tate, Artistic Director, couldn’t be more proud of the team. Tate said, “This is the first time many of our students have performed to a live audience. They must learn their lines, stage movements, and how to put together and take down the set on stage. It can be a challenge for our young people, but they always rise to the occasion!”
This year’s cast and crew include: Alexis Rowe, Briley Edwards, Bryton Alaine, Cody Gilbert, Dylan Dodge, Emma Adams, Erin Hughes, Gracie Johnson, Haley Straube, Kelon Berry, Morgan Fondren, Ryan Eckert, Shelby Commack, Ty Ransom, Brooke Peterson, Ethan Askins, Jaymee Thornton, Thalia Luna.
