PRESS RELEASE

Announcing the 8th annual

 “GISD Festival of Lights”

For the past seven years, the Gary ISD Student Council has been lighting up the city square for the Christmas Holidays. The Gary ISD Student Council will be hosting the 8th annual GISD Festival of Lights (Christmas Lighting Ceremony) on the Gary Square on December 5, 2015 to kick off this year’s “Christmas Season”. Thousands of lights and Christmas scenes and a dynamic Nativity scene will light up the square at approximately 4:00 PM on the day of the festival until January 2, 2016. There are over $30,000 worth of lights and different Christmas displays in the park, and all money raised for the festival has been from generous donations of supporters of the GISD Student Council “Festival of Lights.”

The “GISD Festival of Lights” will be a gala event beginning at 9:00 AM in the morning with entertainment on the Christmas Stage in the High School Gymnasium, along with approximately 50 food and craft booths available for the public’s enjoyment, and almost every GISD student from grades K-12 will be involved in this year’s festival events. The booths include jewelry, handbags, boutique clothing, make-up, Christmas wreaths, hamburgers, nachos, barbecue, cotton candy, a jump house with a slide, pony rides, and many, many more. The entertainment and the booths will be open until 3 PM in the afternoon with different entertainment groups performing every thirty minutes on The Festival Christmas Stage. Entertainment begins at 9 AM with Ms. Davis’ Pre-K students. This will be an exciting way to begin the Christmas Season!

The annual “Pet Parade” will begin at 10:30 a.m., if you are interested in entering your pet, please call the school and sign up for a cost of $10. Dress your pet up and bring them down! We have room for any pet…from a lama to a horse!

Many school clubs and organizations are participating with the food and craft booths to help raise money for their individual organizations.  The entertainment, food and craft booths will be available until 3 PM in the afternoon.

If anyone is interested in renting a booth space for $25 (they go fast!) please contact Mrs. Brooke Cope at (903) 685-2291.

The Festival will also have a Chili Cook-Off event, and there will be several teams competing for the trophy.  Anadarko will be defending their 7 time “first place championship”! Come on down and enjoy some of the best chili in Texas as you listen to our very talented music groups throughout the day.

Tell everyone to come and enjoy the festivities to begin the Christmas season. The Gary ISD Student Council would certainly appreciate your participation. If you would like to make a contribution to help defray the cost of this beautiful light display, please send donations made payable to the Gary ISD Student Council, 132 Bobcat Trail, Gary, Texas, 75643.
