City Council makes changes to Scholarship fund

Garrison City Council met in regular session on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at city hall.  Members present were Nichole Todd, Samantha Van Pelt, Travis Simon, Russell Wright, Jan Woodard and Robert Cook.  Brad Davis and Tim Barton were also present.
Meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m.
Travis Simon led in prayer.
Budget for 2016-2017 was submitted.  Secretary informed council that the city made $65,379.00 over the budget for the year ending March 31, 2016.  This was after all bills were paid.  The budget for 2016-2017 was discussed by departments.  Secretary advised council that they needed to consider a rate increase in water and sewer for this budget year.  Council is to look over budget and call secretary if they have any questions.
The scholarship fund that the City has with Garrison ISD was discussed.  There are changes to the way the scholarships will be given this year, previously the city would select a boy and girl to give the scholarship to, now the school will decide who gets the scholarships with the criteria being set by the city.  The council did not approve of this decision; they would like to be able to pick the students as in the past.  Secretary is to talk with the school and a decision is to be made at the next council meeting.
Nichole Todd made a motion to adjourn.  Russell Wright seconded.  All voted yea.
