Mike Wood, 69, of Joaquin, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015, in San Antonio.

 

Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 21, 2015, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. Randy Smith officiating, assisted by Bro. Robert Ortigo.  Interment followed at Truitt Cemetery in Shelby County.

Top of the Pines Singer/Songwriter Contest Final Results

NACOGDOCHES, TX – East Texas has a new champion.  The Top of the Pines Singer/Songwriter competition finals were held last night at The Liberty Bell.  Finalists Tyler Peppard of Nacogdoches,Texas; Bryan Martin of Longstreet, Louisiana; and Jeremy Bowley of Timpson, Texas each performed two songs in front of a panel of judges and an enthusiastic crowd.

 

Lady Bears come home with two victories Tuesday night!

The HS Lady Bears played in Alto Tuesday Night and came home with two victories! The JV Lady Bears started the night off with a 30-9 win led by Kristyn Rader and Alexus Wallace who each had 8 points. Also scoring for the Lady Bears was Millie Gentry 6, Tyci Earl 6, and Deundria Jackson 2. The JV Lady Bears now have a record of 3-2 on the year.

Marshall Academy Boys and Slocum girls win Gary Tournament

The Gary Bobcats basketball tournament which featured 56 basketball games over 3 days in 3 gyms finished up Saturday night with Marshall Academy boys and Slocum girls winning the championship.
   
The host Gary Bobcats went 2 and 2 in the tournament finishing in 4th place. The Bobcats defeated Beckville in the first game then defeated New Summerfield.
