Obituary for Jimmy Ritter of Gary, Texas

Graveside services for Mr. Jimmy Ritter, 76 of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Weaver Cemetery near Timpson, Texas with Rev. Calvin Gould officiating.  Burial with Masonic Rite’s will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.  Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Ritter passed away July 20, 2016 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

SHELBY COUNTY (TIMPSON) - Second suspect arrested in recent firearm burglary spree

Larry Horton, 18, of Logansport, Louisiana was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 by DeSoto Parish law enforcement.  Horton is a suspect in recent firearm burglaries in Shelby County.  Another suspect in this case, Julian Jones, was arrested earlier this week by Constable Robert Hairgrove.

Timpson City Council Meeting July 19, 2016

Timpson City Council met July 19, 2016 at 5:30 pm. at the City Hall, 456 Jacob Street, Timpson, Texas.  In Mayor Debra Smith’s absence, Cm. Kyle Allen called the meeting to order and led the proceedings. 

A special “thank you” message from Paul Smith, President of Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce, was conveyed by Cm. Allen.  The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce reports that Frontier Days 2016 was a huge success.

Law Enforcement Takes Charge of Local Burglaries

On July 15, 2016, Constable Robert Hairgrove investigated several residential burglaries in the rural areas of Timpson. Along with the assistance of the Timpson PD, a suspect was identified as Julian Jones, 18, of Timpson who was subsequently arrested for burglary of a habitat, possession of marijuana, and possession of a prohibited firearm.  Constable Hairgrove was able to recover 6 of 7 stolen firearms; Center PD recovered the seventh stolen firearm.
