Ramah Cemetery Day-June 4, 2016

Ramah Cemetery Day will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4, 2016.  The business meeting will start at 11:00 am with a covered dish dinner to follow at noon in the gym at Ramah Baptist Church.   Please plan to attend to honor those who have passed away and visit with old friends.     Ron Barker

Timpson Masonic Lodge #437 Awards

Timpson Masonic Lodge #437 held its annual awards banquet on Saturday May 21st. Several awards were presented including the Community Builder Award, three Mirabeau B. Lamar Awards, and a 40 year service award. Robin Connell was awarded the community builder award for her dedication to not only the Timpson community but all of Shelby County. Robin owns both Timpson and Joaquin Quick Stop. She served on the Timpson School Board of Trustees from 1992-1998 and again in 2005-2011. Mrs.

Timpson Memorial Day Celebration

American Legion Post 90 and Timpson ISD will sponsor a Veterans Day program at the gazebo on the Timpson square Monday May 30 at 10:00 a.m. Military servicemen from Timpson who were killed in duty to their country will be named and Gold Star families will be recognized. In addition the presentation of colors, speeches and playing of TAPS will be part of this program.

INMATE HAS ESCAPED SCSO

At approximately 6:08 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, Giovani Angel, an inside trustee at the Shelby
 
County Sheriff’s Office escaped while putting trash out. Angel was in jail on city charges of arson and
 
burglary of a building.
 
He is described as a 19 year-old Hispanic male, medium build, 5’10 inches tall, 150 pounds with black
 
hair and brown eyes. He has a mowhawk haircut.

VFW Post 8904 Award

Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 Commander Gene Hutto recently received from State Commander Dan West a replica WW II 1943 M1 Garand Bayonet in recognition of the post reaching 100% plus 1 in membership for the year 2015-16.  The award was presented at the VFW District 19 meeting in Nacogdoches on April 30th.

Library Memorial Day Displays

Cassey Fowler who is the Library Assistant at the Fannie Brown Booth Library here in Center has set up a couple of Memorial Day displays for kids and adults.  She is continuously adding items so if you have something to share contact her.  VFW Post 8904 donated some flags for the kids, Buddy Poppies and brochures about our Flag.  Library Director Sandra Davis invites everyone to come out and support Cassey’s endeavor.

Airman Layton Sims Visited the Sixth Graders at Garrison Middle School

Airman Layton Sims, 2015 graduate of Garrison High School, visited the sixth graders at Garrison Middle School on April 7th.  Students learned about USAF Basic Military Training (BMT), technical training, and scholarship opportunities in the various branches of the US military. Various questions were answered about military fields of study and how to prepare for future military admittance.

VFW Post 8904 Auxiliary Installation

At their monthly meeting on Monday, May 16th the Auxiliary to Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 installed their new officers for the coming year July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017.
