History Made at Manning  History was made last Sunday, May 5th at the sawmill town of Manning, south of Huntington.  (1) Mike Thomas and Wanda (Armstrong) Villarreal (both pictured) attended the Manning Sawmill Reunion for the first time, receiving the prize for the persons who had travelled the farthest to attend the reunion (This award was only awarded by me here in this column.)  Wanda’s mother, Helen Louise Wright, grew up there at Manning. It was Wanda’s first time to attend the annual reunion.  (2) According to Yvonne Buford, the reunion has been occurring annually since two years after the mill burned in 1935.  (3)  For the first time ever, Bob Flournoy did not attend the Reunion, because his granddaughter graduated from Oral Roberts University.   Save the Date! (1) Bill O’Neal will speak  for the Wednesday, May 15, 2019 meeting of the Timpson Area Genealogical and Heritage Society (TAGHS) at 2 p.m. at the Timpson Public Library on 520 Austin Street in downtown Timpson.  For more information, call the Genealogy Room at the Library at (936) 254-2966.  (2) “KTRE-TV and the Double H Ranch” will be the topic for the program for the next meeting of the Angelina County Genealogical Society, when it meets at 4 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019 in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library on 706 South Raguet Street in Lufkin, Texas.  KTRE-TV was established in 1955 with Richmon Lewin serving as its first general manager. Musician Hank Huggins hosted a country and western music program called Double H Ranch with Hank, Juanita, and all the gang.  Two  of the advertisers were Village Furniture and Drive-In Paint Store, owned by Bill Pate.  Musicians on the show were Hank, his wife Juanita, Bill Lenderman, Bill Pollard, Don Manley, Sonny Burns, and Bobby Byrd.  Coffee and cookies begin at 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact Dickie Dixon at (936) 240-8378 or e-mail him at (3) Stanley Fletcher, of Leesville, will discuss “Steamboats of the Sabine River,” when the Angelina County Genealogical Society meets at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019 in the Fellowship Hall of Keltys United Methodist Church on 1867 Old Mill Road in Lufkin, Texas.  For more information, please contact Rev.
