Going Deeper with God in Love: Four Blessings of Easter - Luke 24:36-48

Going Deeper with God in Love

Four Blessings of Easter
Luke 24:36-48

Last week I started looking at “Four Easter Blessings.”  We saw the first two blessings from Luke 24:36-38.  First was the “Blessing of Peace” from verse 36.  Jesus said, “Peace be with you.” Peace of mind is something that every one of us seeks and longs for.  By receiving Easter’s “Blessing of Peace,” we know that whatever the Prince of Peace brings into our lives will work out for our good.

The second “Easter Blessing” was the “Blessing of Joy” in verse 41. Joy is a natural bi-product of peace. Joy does not happen outside of troubles, but it helps us overcome our concerns while we are in trouble. Joy is not the absence of sorrow; God gives joy during sorrow.

Today, we will look at the final two “Blessings of Easter.”  The first is the “Blessing of Hope.” We see this in verse 44, “Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’”

When you and I know that people are going to keep their promises, we have a secure hope that does not disappoint. Here in this verse, Jesus explains to His followers how all the details of His life were in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.  Jesus is the embodiment and incarnation of God’s promises to us; therefore we can rest in the hope that the Lord provides for His followers.

That brings me to the fourth and final blessing that we should receive because of Easter and that is the “Blessing of Our Mission.” This is seen in verses 46-48, “Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  And you are witnesses of these things.’” Easter brings blessings of peace, joy, and hope…which results in external action (mission). God has plans for us! God has a mission for us, and that mission is for us to participate in the work of Christ by proclaiming the Good News that can be found in Jesus Christ.

Are you following the plan/mission that the Lord has for you with peace, joy, and hope? Are you walking in fellowship with the Lord?  If not, would you consider fully committing your life to Him so that He can forgive you of your wrongdoings and give you these “Four Blessings of Easter?”

As we continue to go through these difficult times as churches and as a society, we can have peace, joy, hope, and a mission. I pray that the Lord will give you these now and in the coming weeks.  If there is anything you believe that myself or First Baptist Church can do to help you, would you please let us know?
