Loretta Bedford presents Modern day Slavery

Delta Gamma's January Program "Modern Day Slavery:Human Trafficking" was presented by Loretta Bedford of San Augustine.  "Refuge of Light" is dedicated to establishing a safe home for victimized girls under the age of 18 years in the U.S.  Human trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world.  It generates $32 billion per year and impacts as many as 300,000 American children

Suzanne Ihlo, member of First United Methodist Church in Center, and Chairman of its Cemetery Committee, spoke at the Center Garden Club meeting on Wednesday, January 13.

Mrs. Ihlo gave a short history of the FUMC Cemetery, citing it as the first cemetery in the City of Center, established in 1861. She has gathered and submitted all the material required by the Texas Historical Committee to obtain an historic designation and marker for the cemetery.

Delta Gamma initiates four new members, hears program on growing tragedy

The Delta Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma initiated four new members at its regular monthly meeting of Monday, January 11: Deonna Courtney, Jeri Meridith, Selisha Cockrell, and Leisa Chadwick. Delta Gamma serves key women educators in Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties.


The meeting venue was Royal Buffet in Center, where the members enjoyed a Dutch-treat dinner while they were informed of a growing tragedy in the United States and around the world.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Center. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Center.
