UIL reclassification

  The UIL released their reclassification for the 2016-2018 season Monday morning with quite a few changes in our area.
The Center Roughriders will move up to 4A Division 1 in Football and be in Region 3 District 9 with Bullard, Carthage, Henderson, Kilgore, Palestine and Chapel Hill. In Basketball the Roughriders will be in Region 2 District 16 with Carthage, Henderson, Rusk and Tatum.

Beekeepers hold program about products made from honey

Pineywoods Beekeepers Association members Mike Bordelon from Huxley and James and Cindy Dotson from Milam were the guest speakers for the January 28 Shelby County Bee Club in Center, Texas.  The program was about products made from honey.  Mike explained how to make cream honey and had samples to taste.  James and Cindy demonstrated the process of making meade, a product which dates back to 7,000 BC in China.

Center Elementary walks across Texas

680 Center Elementary students and staff dusted off their walking shoes and joined in to “Walk Across Texas.” The school formed 36 teams and competed with each other to see which team could walk the most miles over eight weeks from November 2015 – January 2016.  Their goal was to walk at least 830 miles (the distance from Longview to El Paso) in eight weeks.
