U.S.P.S releases stamp in honor of Richard Allen

The U.S. Postal Service today kicked off the national observance of Black History Month with the dedication of a Forever stamp honoring preacher, activist and civic leader Richard Allen for his inspirational life and profound contribution to American history. The ceremony was held at Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, founded by Allen.

Political forum held at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame

Local candidates and representatives speaking for state candidates spoke at a political forum held Monday, February 1 at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in Carthage. Each candidate had three minutes for an introductory talk, 30 seconds to answer questions from the audience, and three minutes to summarize after the question-and-answer session.

Chamber welcomes 936 Crossfit

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed new Chamber member, 936 CrossFit, located at 139 Catco Dr., with a ribbon cutting on January 14.   Chamber Executive Director, Pam Phelps, introduced owners, Grant Belrose and Tyler Touch, and ask Grant to introduce his staff and family that were in attendance.

DETCOG Board Forms Committee to Search for New Executive Director

 The Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) met in its first regularly scheduled session of 2016 Thursday in the San Augustine Historical Theater in San Augustine, Texas.  After taking care of routine business and hearing several committee reports the board members retired to the adjacent building for the purpose of discuss personnel matters in a session closed to the public.

3rd Annual Shelby County Free Seed Savers Swap

Come see what Shelby County is growing!  The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby County is pleased to announce our Third Annual Free Savers Seed Swap.  Drop off your labeled vegetable, herb or flower seeds and/or bulbs, corms, rhizomes to the Extension office in the courthouse annex, 1st floor office suites from February 1 - 18.  Need labeled envelopes to package your seeds?  Stop by the Extension office to pick-up your seed envelopes.
