Leadership Conference held at Windham Civic Center
A Leadership Conference, sponsored by Farmers State Bank and hosted by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, was held at the Windham Civic Center from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Gold Sponsors for the event were the City of Center and Tyson Foods. Silver Sponsor was Baldwin Tree Service.
The guest speaker was Marcus Cox, an Associate Professor of Management in the Rusche College of Business at Stephen F. Austin State University. The topic of Mr. Cox’s presentation was “Multiple Generations in the Workforce and Changing Demographics: What’s a Manager to Do?” Mr. Cox spoke about generational characteristics and stereotypes and how these can cause problems. He welcomed discussion, inviting attendees to cite examples.
Another area that brought discussion was the changing demographics in Texas and the impact it has on the workplace. The ending discussion centered around what all workers want in their jobs and from their bosses.
Lunch was catered by Endless Possibilities. It was a working lunch, with small group discussions and short case applications.
Marcus Cox was an engaging speaker with a low-key, conversational style. The day flew by with most everyone engaged in the learning. Hopefully, there will be more of these conferences.
