On June 25, 1950, the North Korean Army began an offensive to invade South Korea that resulted in the capture of the republic’s capital, Seoul, within four days. The United States, the United Kingdom and other members of the United Nations moved to actively defend South Korea – an effort that would last until July 27, 1953, when negotiations concluded and fighting finally ended.

To commemorate the service and sacrifice of those who served in the Korean War, Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Ladies Auxiliary will host a Wreath Laying at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Center on Friday, July 27th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.  The names of Shelby County Veterans killed in action/missing in action during the Korean War will also be read.  All Korean War Veterans and the public are cordially invited.  If you are a Korean War Veteran or the family member of a passed Korean War Veteran and can attend the program, we would like to honor your service.  Please call Post Quartermaster Larry Hume, 936-598-2976 with the name of the individual to be honored and who will be attending.
