Freezer Pleaser Meal Prep Club - a help for busy people
Shelby County AgriLife Extension service offers many programs useful to area residents. A newly-launched club has benefits to almost everyone, as it involves planning for, and preparing nutritious meals. This is the Freezer Pleaser Meal Prep Club, which launched on Monday, January 28, 2019, followed by a second meeting on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
Most everyone who is feeding a family, no matter the size, knows the time crunch centered around the dinner hour. With children involved in after-school activities, that crunch gets even tighter. The Freezer Pleaser Meal Prep lightens the dinnertime load on the family “chef.”
How does this work? For the $15 cost per month, a member gets a choice of 20 recipes (each serves 6); a master grocery list; seasonings/spices for the recipes; printed meal bag/container labels; thermal reusable bag for transporting food; use of 6-foot table at the AgriLife Building for prepping; and use of kitchen tools (bowls, measuring items, food scale, etc.).
Even though the recipes serve six, they can still serve for smaller families by dividing the recipes into smaller freezer bags at the prep site or by cooking the meal, then freezing unused portions of the cooked meal. Even singles can take advantage of this club by dividing the recipes into six bags for six individual frozen meals, or into three portions to freeze for one meal, with next-day leftovers. This is a much healthier way to eat than picking up fast food for a quick way to deal with dinner.
In the future, there will be two meetings per month through December 2019. The Monday night prep sessions are scheduled from 3 pm to 7 pm; and the Saturday ones, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Call the Shelby County AgriLife Office at 936-598-7744 for more information. A personal thank-you to Jheri-Lynn McSwain for making this wonderful and healthful Freezer Pleaser Meal Prep Club available to Shelby County!
