Area schools, cities hold elections on May 5

 

Both propositions of the Center ISD Bond Election passed:

Proposition A
The issuance of $20,000,000 of bonds by the Center Independent School District for School Facilities and levying the tax in payment thereof. The vote was 467 for and 162 against;

Proposition B
The issuance of $10,000,000 of bonds by the Center Independent School District for School Facilities, to wit: Extracurricular Band, Agriculture, and Athletic Program improvements and levying the tax in payment thereof. The vote was 396 for and 230 against.

Timpson ISD reported the following results in their School Board election: Jim Rader, 148 votes; Danny Hunt, 141; Joyce Wolfe, 133; and Carlos Johnson, 108. The first three candidates have seats on the School Board.

The City of Joaquin reported the following unofficial results for the City Council seats: Frank Cooper, 40 votes; Jesse Griffith, 38; Krystal Raybon, 27; and Floyd Blackman, 19. Mr. Cooper, Mr. Griffith, and Ms. Raybon were elected.

The City of Tenaha had elections for Mayor and Council Aldermen. In the Mayor’s race, Michael Baker won with 78 votes. Larry “Dude” Jones received 66 votes, and Orinthia Johnson received 8. Linda Vickery received 129 votes in the Council Alderman election; Florance Adams received 122; and Stephanie Glenn, 22. Ms. Vickery and Ms. Adams will be sworn in at the regular meeting on May 29.

The City of Timpson election results were as follows: Mayor Debra Smith ran unopposed; incumbent, Yvonne Ramsey received 86 votes, to retain her Council seat; Teri Alexander, 70 votes, to take the place of Al Skinner, who chose not to run again; Mr. Baker, 47; and George Grace, 45.

The City of Garrison had two candidates for Mayor: Russel Wright, who won the election with 60% of votes cast; and Robert Cook, who received 40%. Travis Simon and Hope Hallmark were the two candidates who ran unopposed for Garrison City Council.

In the race for Trustee for the Garrison ISD School Board, there were two positions available. The four candidates’ percentages of the votes cast were: Kyle Adkison, 13.73; Bart Reneau, 41.37%; Jackson Sheffield, 17.09%; and Lane Barton, 17.81%.

Gary ISD Trustee election results showed challenger Leah Adams defeating incumbent Elaine Hight with 56 votes to Hight’s 34 votes. The City of Gary candidates ran unopposed.
