After a scoreless first quarter, the Center Roughriders varsity football team took a 6-0 lead into the halftime intermission and they never looked back during their 36-0 road game win at Buna High School last Friday.
Center used three Cougar fumbles to keep momentum in their favor during the game and outscored Buna 30-0 in the second half of a matchup between two schools accustomed to a close outcome when they had previously met up.
Juniors, receiver Octavius Evans and quarterback, Kyle Parks hooked up for two of the scores with touchdown strikes from just inside the red-zone (17 and 16 yards). Parks added two 2-point conversion runs to the tally during the game.
Dacrey McGee, JaCarlos Hall and Shadarian Hall added touchdowns running during the night to make the win a well rounded team effort.
The ‘Riders defensive line gave the Cougars alot of grief by maintaining a steady surge at the line of scrimmage throughout the night. Their defense as a whole allowed only 65 yards of offense all night to Buna.
The win moved Center’s record to 1-1 and Buna to 0-2.
Center will travel to Garrison for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday, September 11. Garrison is a Class 3A school who fell to Class 2A Shelbyville last Friday by a 20-12 score.
