'Riders slip past Bulldogs for third straight win

The Center Roughriders varsity football team came away with their third straight road win last Friday. The ‘Riders captured a 26-23 victory over the Jasper Bulldogs. Center is now 3-1 on the season and haven’t lost since their first home game, on Week 1, to the Waskom Wildcats.
Center took a 6-0 lead when Kyle Parks hit Jaterious Evans for a 51-yard touchdown pass completion which gave the Roughriders the first lead.
The Bulldogs capped a 64-yard drive when quarterback Quentin Williams put JHS up 7-6 with a 2-yard score. In the second period Jasper extended their lead with a 32-yard field goal.
Center regained the lead at 13-10 when Sayoddrick Barnes scored from 4-yards away. This proved to be the final score of the first half.
In the third period, Williams scored his second touchdown, a 46-yarder, which put Jasper ahead again at 16-13.
Barnes later answered with a 6-yard ‘Riders score which sent the game into the final quarter with CHS leading 20-16.
Jasper drew first blood in the final stanza when Williams scored his third touchdown from 40-yards out. This gave the Bulldogs a narrow 23-20 advantage. Parks later hit ‘Rider receiver Octavius Evans on a 33-yard pass completion for a score which gave CHS a 26-23 lead after a failed extra point attempt. This proved to be the final score of the game.
The Center defense held off the Bulldogs on their next offensive drive which ended on fourth down with a sack on JHS quarterback Quentin Williams.
The Roughriders will host the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks next Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m.
The Hawks are 1-3 and lost to 1-3 Little Cypress Mauriceville High School last Friday by a 42-28 margin.
