'Riders beat Tatum, head to showdown with Atlanta

The Center Roughriders football team has undoubtably faced their easiest two District 6 Class 4A opponents and have beaten, Spring Hill 56-10, two weeks ago, and defeated Tatum 42-7 last Friday. They are now 2-0 in conference play and boast a 6-1 overall record. Center hasn’t lost a game since Week 1 when they lost to Waskom at home by a 34-22 margin. The ‘Riders are currently on a six-game winning streak.
Center will travel next to Atlanta this Friday, October 23 to face the Rabbits in their third conference game, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. Atlanta is 2-0 in league play and has a 4-3 overall standing. They defeated Gladewater on the road last Friday by a 35-28 score.
In last Friday’s win over the winless Tatum Eagles, Center scored all 42 of their points in the first half.  DaCorey McGee started the scoring offensive with a 1-yard run with 3:58 remaining in the opening period. The run capped a 95-yard scoring drive. Teammate Sayoddrick Barnes scored on a 60-yard run near the end of the opening period and Center took a 14-0 lead into the second period of play, after Arnol Escobedo added his second, of six extra point kicks for the ‘Riders.
McGee added scoring runs from two and 33 yards out during the third period which gave CHS a 28-0 lead before Tatum’s LaMarcus Harmon scored the Eagles only touchdown on a 15-yard run with 1:48 left in the first half.
JaCarlos Hall caught a Kyle Parks pass for a score with just 11 seconds remaining before the midway break, raising Center’s lead to 35-0. Jadus Johnson intercepted a Tatum pass and retiurned it 67 yards for another Center score as time expired in the first half for the final score of the night, giving Center the final 42-7 advantage.
