The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors joined Southern Seasons owner, Shana Brittain for an Open House, to introduce Jaeleigh Davis, artist of Hazel Pearl Designs. Hazel Pearl Designs, an in store boutique, showcases repainted wood furniture in junktique style.
Everyone that attended had the opportunity to meet Jaeleigh and see her creative designs. Southern Seasons is located at 5075 State Highway 87 South in Shelbyville.

Sassy Red's Bakery Margaret's Lamb & Lion
Move to Tenaha St.
The Chamber Ambassadors held a relocation ribbon cutting for Sassy Red's Bakery and Margaret's Lamb & Lion Bookstore on August 11. The two businesses have merged under the one name Sassy Red's Inc. and are located at 1000 Tenaha St. in Center.
Sassy Red's Bakery bakes confections such as cupcakes, cakes and cookies. Special orders are now available for fruit trays, veggie trays and finger foods.
A new addition to the bakery is coffee. "We have our espresso and we do the frapuccinos, cappuccinos and iced coffees," said Cindy Lindsey, owner of Sassy Red's Bakery.
The bookstore area offers a variety of books, gifts and Christian themed items.

Affinity Hospices Opens In Center
The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors welcomed Affinity Hospice with a new member ribbon cutting on Tuesday, August 16. Affinity Hospice is located at 1400 Tenaha St. and can be contacted at 936-657-4050.
Affinity Hospice provides a team of professionals and volunteers that work with the family during an illness and provides a special way of caring for patients facing end of life decisions. Casey Lout serves as the local manager.

Hope Dental Center Opens In Tenaha

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting welcoming Hope Dental Center to the community. Hope Dental Center is located at 164 Wall Street in Tenaha.
 Mike Belgard, PA, CEO for Hope Community Medicine, spoke on behalf of Hope Dental Center and introduced the dentists on staff, Jonathan Aguilar, DDS and Valarie Sperry, DDS. He also introduced the dental hygienist Sharon Barbee, RDH. The Dental Center provides a full array of dental care including more major treatment such as root canals or extractions.

40th East Texas Poultry Festival
Kicks Off With A Flurry of Activities
The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce announces the 40th East Texas Poultry Festival, presented by Farmers State Bank, will kick-off Wednesday, September 28 with several events. These events usher in the season prior to the Festival opening Thursday, October 6.
The Chicken Fajita Kick-Off Lunch, sponsored by East Texas Poultry Supply, starts at 11:00 a.m. on the Historic Downtown Center Square according to Chairman, Bryan Wages. The lunch includes two chicken fajitas, chips, salsa and a drink for $7 per plate and delivery is available for 5 or more advance orders by calling 936-591-9334 or emailing sctoday@att.net by Friday, September 23. An order form for the Fajita Lunch, as well as other Poultry Festival Events, is available on the Poultry Festival Event page on the Chamber web site, www.shelbycountychamber.com.
Center Tire Company is the Platinum Sponsor for the East Texas Poultry Festival's Doo-Dah Parade. Decorated floats, trailers, tractors, or business vehicles lend a great time and just about anything goes! Participants will line up at the Farmers State Bank Drive-Thru at 4:00. The parade will circle the historic downtown square led by the Shelby County Junior Chamber of Commerce at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28.
Following the parade Shelby County Chefs will feature chicken dshes at the Chicken Cooking Contest sponsored by Tyson Foods. Trophies and cash prizes are given to the top cooks by categories, including People's Choice and the Best Dressed Table. The public is invited to come at 5:00 p.m. on the east side of the Square and sample the dishes for $5. To enter the contest in the adult, high school youth or youth categories recipes may be emailed to info@shelbycountychamber.com, mailed to or dropped off at the Chamber offices, 100 Courthouse Square, A-101, Center, Texas 75935. Chairman, Natalie Oswalt, states the deadline for submitting recipes is Monday, September 19. The contest is open to any Shelby County resident.l
Two festival events which highlight Shelby County's rich heritage are the Quilt Show, sponsored by Scull Timber, and Photography Show, sponsored by Vieux Carre' Photography. Local artistic talent will be displayed October 6, 7 and 8. The Quilt Show will be held in the 1885 Historic Courthouse on the Center Square from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Quilt entrants may be either the owner of the quilt(s) entered or have been involved in the execution/making of the quilt(s). The categories for entries are: Hand pieced/hand quilted, Appliqué/hand quilted, Machine pieced/hand quilted, Appliqué machine/machine quilted, Machine pieced/machine quilted, Miniature Quilts, Wall Hangings, Theme Quilts and Traditional Quilts. Heirloom quilts are welcomed.
 The Photography Show will be held at the Vision Source office of Dr. Charles Collard located next to the RIO Theatre on the Center Square from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. all three days of the Poultry Festival. Photography Show Categories include Fine Art, Scenic, Urban, People, Animals, Digital Manipulation, Flowers and Poultry according to Chairman Billie Jones. The age groups are:
Children, 12 & under / Youth, 13-18 / Adults, 19 & over.

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Queen's Court Committee held a Welcome Party to introduce and welcome the 2016 East Texas Poultry Festival Queen's Court.
The upcoming schedule and pageant rules and guidelines were reviewed. The Queen's Court program has a month long schedule of events including a Masquerade Ball and a Social as part of the social enrichment, personal development and leadership development for the candidates and their escorts prior to the scholarship pageant.
There are representatives from three Shelby County high schools in the 2016 Court. Candidates are Emma Locke, Madison Kirby, Elizabeth Chavez, Rylee Morris, Alexia Baldwin, Kendal Ray, Lexi Moody, Center High School; Jessye Massey, Kalina Lynn Bradshaw, Lizbeth Bautista, Courtney Bass, Shelbyville High School; Madelynn Hutchins, Katelyn Jackson, Karley Broadway, Joaquin High School.
The Coronation, presented by Shelby Saving Bank, will be held Saturday, October 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Center High School Cafetorium when the Queen candidates will be presented to Shelby County.
The Queen's Court committee led by Chairman Caroline Corbell, includes, Kerri Wiggins, Shanell Ruiz, Kay Fairchild and Jesse Wiggins.

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors joined Dr. Thomas Youngblood for a new member ribbon cutting at the Children's Dental Center located at 128 Nacogdoches St. Ambassador President, Meg Camp, welcomed Dr. Youngblood and his staff to center and wished him great success.
Dr. Thomas Youngblood, DDS spoke about his facility and the services offered for ages six months to 20 years of age. "I've been doing this about 14-15 years now, and I've been very blessed to work with some very talented dentists that have helped me through the years to kind of craft my art," said Dr. Youngblood.
He introduced members of his staff including Miriam Sanchez, Krystal Fuller, Casadie Hagler, Evelyn Campos, Jesica Lopez, Mary Hernandez and Martha Garza, RDH.
The office is open Monday through Thursday 8.a.m. to 5.p.m. with a more tentative schedule on Friday.

East Texas Poultry Festival
Entertainment Committee Seeks Talent
The 40th East Texas Poultry Festival, presented by Farmers State Bank, is fast approaching. The Poultry Festival is slated for October 6, 7 and 8 and the Entertainment Committee chairs, Danny Paul and Sally Windham, are seeking volunteer talented artist to perform on the Frances Oates Stage, sponsored by Specter, Inc. Beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 will be "Big Tent Open Mic" open to anyone that wishes to share their talent.
Friday, October 7 is "Gospel Night" beginning at 5:30 p.m. All church choirs, praise teams, praise bands, youth choirs and individuals are welcome and Saturday, October 8 will feature
soloist and local bands.

Shelby County Farm Bureau was organized on March 27, 1953 and that too was the birth of Texas Farm Bureau Insurance being sold in Shelby County.
