Do Dat BBQ rises from the ashes

Nacogdoches County EMS participated in the Do Dat BBQ this past Saturday, April 28, 2018.  The Do Dat BBQ is a BBQ competition in Nacogdoches, Texas supporting the Nacogdoches Area United Way, presented by Pilgrim's Pride. For more than 20 years, the Do Dat Barbecue has taken place in Nacogdoches.  After a few years of not having the event, the cook-off returned to the Nacogdoches County Exposition and Civic Center.

The Nacogdoches County EMS cook team consisted of Gerhardt Lamyuen, Brandon Medley, Chase Meador, Chad Pate, Kirk Heaslet, Jack Horn, Kendra Ball, and several other department members and their families.  The EMS cook team was sponsored by East Texas Press, PHI Air Medical, Apollo Med Flight, L.Q. Robinson MD, M. Lyons DO, C. Wattigny MD, M. Taylor MD, Peni Russell FNP, and Juan & Brandy Hernandez. 

There were over 30 teams in this year’s competition.  Awards were given for the best chicken, ribs, brisket, beans, and People’s Choice.  The top 7 teams were recognized, trophies were presented to the top 3 in each category.
